Advertising is legalized lying. ~ H.G.Wells

I think one can never be thoroughly ready for exams; lest you’re someone who’s both hardworking and brilliant at the same time. And I think I happen to know someone who’s like that. Unfortunately,  it’s not me, DUH.

But back to the topic. In my world, I suppose no one, and I mean absolutely no one can ever be a hundred percent ready for an exam, or for any other tests for the matter. You can prepare yes, but you’re never fully ready. The list of things to prepare frankly never ends.

So in a last minute attempt to salvage my GP, albeit however late it is, I finally finished Paul Ng’s notes. I know I was yapping about how wonderful they  were, so this may pose as a surprise to many that I hadn’t already finished them earlier. Oh well, what can I say? Priorities. Or more accurately, “Priorities”. Seriously, I’m really blame this whole regime (I don’t care if it’s not an appropriate word here) of the sciences being more important than the arts, here in Singapore. Admit it, how many times have your teachers forgo a music lesson for an extra math or science class. So I guess you can’t really blame us if we perform poorer for our arts (read: GP and Economics). The fact that such delineations (of science being your ticket to a stable job and income in the future) has been in bred in us from a very young age, is in essence the very reason why we spend more time on our other subjects.

But the main take away lesson here is that despite it not being your “priority”, you should still give it some attention.

So yep. I wonder if technology and new media is gonna come up for the essay.

I do hope so.

A Fallen Star

What’s happening to the world? And I say this with a heavy heart.

Why are all the icons and talented people dying at such at young age? To name a few, does Elvis Presley and Heath Ledger ring a bell?

You can hardly imagine how shocked I was when I woke up this morning with the news that Michael Jackson had passed away. Okay, my brother plainly claimed that he was dead. So you can bet I was HECK NOT convinced until I saw it myself on the news. I was like, ‘are you kidding me?!’

So throughout the day, over the television and over the Internet, the news of his death spreaded like wildfire. And now MTV is having these reruns of his earlier works…

Honestly, despite all the controversy over his, how shall I put it, orientation(?), you’ve gotta admit that this  man has got a whole lotta talent. To this very day, I’m still in AWE as I watch the music video of Thriller or Billy Jean. And mind you, I was born in 1991. That itself is saying a lot.

Gosh, sometimes I wonder how I can write all those optimistic essays for GP; saying it’s never too late. I mean look at the world now. Pandemics, sudden deaths, natural disasters, and environmental problems (admit it, the polar ice caps are still melting even though Global Warming is said to have had eased a little). What about the nuclear weapons testing in North Korea? Maybe the world is really coming to an end as predicted. Did you know that the DOOMSDAY is said to occur at the end of 2012? Check out the following site:

So yeah, I guess life continues meanwhile eh? And while it’s really a pity that such a talented man has to die at such a young age, let’s look forward to the rise of another star. (Which hopefully will get to live to a very ripe age)

But before that, let’s observe a moment of silence for this Fallen Star. There probably wouldn’t be anyone who can ever SING and DANCE as well as he can. Not to mention the fact that he’s an INTERNATIONAL STAR. Who hasn’t heard of MICHAEL JACKSON? LITERALLY. Asia, America, Europe, he’s practically a household name WORLDWIDE.

Pity.

RIP MJ.

Motivation.

Well, it seems like the holidays wouldn’t be extended for another week in the end. For more information, check out channelnewsasia.com. It’s just so depressing for me to put it here. I even feel light headed as I write this. Then again, I’m not dismissing the fact that some time this week, some otherworldly being may very well bestow upon us with a miracle. If only.

Enough of this nonsense already. Seriously, as the prospect of an extended break grows slimmer, I’m urging everyone to stop pinning their hopes on something so uncertain. And I’m hoping I can fully convince myself of this too, and SOON. Because facing the facts, we’re really running out of time. The common tests are just a stone drop away. So it’s probably wiser to prepare for the worst, than to be optimistic about something that probably isn’t going to happen anytime soon. In economics, it would mean the oppurtunity costs you’re incurring would be too high, so much so that your marginal costs are going to outweigh your marginal benefits. So why take the risk? When it comes to studying, take the conventional Singaporean route.  KIASU and KIASI are key.

On this very last week of the holidays, I suppose not much can change now can it? But if it were to make any difference, here’s some luck  for everyone, be it for your CTs, or in your last minute attempt to cram chapters and topics in your already saturated brain. Let’s do this! And as the saying goes, it’s never too late. Well, hopefully not.

Yes. No. Maybe. Definitely.

This week feels exceptionally long.

Breaking my silence.

Ok. Since I’m on schedule (BARELY) with my revision and all, I decided I could spare a few minutes of my time for an update. Not to mention, to practise my writing at the same time. :)

So I’m almost done with PHYSICS and ECONS. About half way through MATH, though there’s really nothing you can do rather than to practice. So I’m half done with the Revision Package for that. I’m finishing up on Organic CHEMISTRY as well, so next week should be quite a comfortable week for consolidation practices and stuff. And I wonder if I’ll survive the physical chem revision test on MONDAY, since I’ve practically yet to touch that, AT ALL. So yeah.

AND I really do HOPE they’ll shut down the schools for another one more week. The H1N1 cases have been rising, so it really should be a cause for concern. And the fact that it leaves us all one more week to study is a always a plus. Alright, it’s a very BIG PLUS. And I’ll probably be very confident to say that I’ve done all that I can for the CTs if that’s the case. Because honestly, I’ll probably just make it in time for the CTs if next week is gonna be the last week of the HOLs. Frankly, I’ll be the first to admit that I should have started my revision earlier but oh well, every action comes with a consequence.

So I really should stop pinning my hope on something so UNCERTAIN and get down and dirty with my notes! Time’s really running up and I’m really panicky now. So I really should hit the books . Time’s ticking and I realised I spent more than a few minutes here.

CRAP.
